DRIVE BY PUNCTURE
CONCEPT SPACES / URBAN INTERVENTIONS
Drive by Puncture unlocks the ecological potential of a typical, impermeable residential asphalt driveway to test the design parameters for VTLA’s work for the Laneway Puncture Demonstration Project. A 100mm wide slice cut through asphalt and filled with soil and gravel creates a linear vessel to accept surface water drainage and spontaneous plant colonization.
The diverse mix of plants that germinated in the driveway puncture informed the plant specifications for CRACK MIX©, a custom seed pack of 15 hardy urban plants typical to those that colonize the concrete cracks of laneways across the Greater Toronto Area.
